Resurrección
The doctor delivered the sad news: Mrs. Rosa had just passed away. A minute later, her four children and ten grandchildren, who hadn’t been seen around the house in months, rushed impatiently into the blue parlor. Antonia could hear them shouting as she dressed the body and smoothed out the sheets. When she finished, just as the lady had asked her the day before, she filled two small glasses with the Gran Reserva sherry brandy, the one for special occasions. She downed the first, toasting the heavens, and then, with the other, moistened the deceased’s blue lips. Instantly, Mrs. Rosa opened her eyes and whispered, “I knew it. Miraculous.”
The vultures continued to argue in vain in the blue parlor.
