A jury chaired by Mauricio Gil Cano and composed of Josefa Parra Ramos, poet and director of the Caballero Bonald Foundation; Ana Sofía Pérez-Bustamante Mourier, tenured professor of Spanish Literature at the UCA, writer, and deputy director of the Royal Hispanic-American Academy; José López Romero, professor of Language and Literature, storyteller, and critic; and Evaristo Babé Romero, president of the Regulatory Council of Brandy de Jerez, decided to award the following prizes at the 10th “Cardenal Mendoza” International Microfiction Contest:

 

First prize: “Vigilia,” by Alberto Menéndez García, a resident of Oviedo (Asturias).

  • Second prize: “Campiña, created by Miguel Campos Martín, from Málaga.

  • Third prize: “Los del quinto, originally by Miguel Ángel Escudero Ebble, from Madrid.

  • Cardenal Mendoza Non Plus Ultra Mention: “Resurrección,” created by Raquel Traverso Rodríguez, a resident of Madrid.

     

    A total of 2,689 entries from thirty-five countries were submitted to the competition: Spain, Germany, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, the United States of America, France, Guatemala, Equatorial Guinea, Honduras, Italy, Iceland, Mexico, Mozambique, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela.
