A unique and exceptional brandy, as one would expect from a spirit aged for so long.

Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real is an elegant Jerez brandy with an average age of over twenty-five years, aged in casks seasoned with Oloroso sherry.

Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real: a unique brandy with seductive and brilliant nuances of aged mahogany. It possesses an exceptionally elegant aroma of fine oak with hints of raisins and prunes. On the palate, it is wonderfully round, smooth, and persistent—exceptional characteristics of a brandy with such extended aging.

Appearance of radiant old mahogany.

On the nose it offers an elegant aroma of old wood with hints of sweet raisin and plum.

On the palate it offers a perfectly rounded, smooth, and lingering taste, forming exceptional characteristics that time has softened and enhanced.

In 1981, to commemorate the bicentenary of our winery and with an eye toward the new century, a reserve of Cardenal Mendoza was set aside to mark the arrival of the new millennium. For almost two decades, Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real patiently awaited its bottling and release. We use the name Carta Real to recall a dinner at which Sánchez Romate wines and brandy were served at the Royal Palace of Madrid on December 2, 1900.

At that time, Juan Manuel Sánchez y Gutiérrez de Castro, the winery’s owner, was a minister to King Alfonso XII, who awarded him the title of Duke of Algeciras for his successful service in organizing the 1906 Algeciras International Conference.
