Continuity of the glasses
The man has his back to a window and faces the fireplace. In one hand he holds a book and in the other a glass of sherry brandy. In the book, the woman plots with her lover to murder her husband.
In the book, the lover wanders through the rooms searching for his unsuspecting victim. He encounters no obstacles. She has cleared them all away. He reaches the main room. In his pocket is a dagger. The husband has his back to a window and faces the fireplace. In one hand he holds a book and in the other a glass.
The man turns around and sees a stranger holding a dagger. The stranger trembles with fear and cold. The man puts down the book.
—Would you like a glass?
The other man agrees. He puts away the dagger and sits down by the fire. Just to make conversation, he asks what the book is about.
