A GOOD CLOUD
Every evening, Eusebio would take the cart, load the empty buckets, and head out to the open field. There, his very own cloud was waiting for him. A good cloud. Eusebio would snap his fingers, and the cloud would release rainwater. When the buckets were full, Eusebio would load them back onto the cart and return home.
If the cloud was feeling down, Eusebio would tell it sad stories—the saddest stories ever—and the cloud, being sensitive, would start to cry and rain.
On a day that seemed almost impossible, Eusebio finally received Ramona’s kiss, and, as he did every evening, he went to the open field. The cloud couldn’t hear the snap of Eusebio’s fingers because the frantic beating of his captured heart swallowed the silence. The cloud understood and acted accordingly. Instead of releasing water, it released brandy from Jerez. The occasion certainly deserved it.
