The goal of the Contest is to promote hyper-short fiction centered on a product as widely appreciated around the world as brandy from Jerez.
As on other occasions, the theme is open, provided that the micro-story refers in some way to brandy from Jerez. Entries may not exceed 150 words—including the title—and must be submitted under a pseudonym.
The prize structure is as follows:
The First Prize is worth 2,000 euros, a bottle of Cardenal Mendoza Non Plus Ultra brandy from Jerez, and a case of Romate reserve sherries.
The second-place winner will receive a prize of 700 euros, a bottle of Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real brandy from Jerez, and a case of Romate reserve wines from Jerez.
The Third Prize will consist of 600 euros, a bottle of Cardenal Mendoza Clásico brandy, and a case of sherry from the Romate reserves. In addition, the jury will award the Cardenal Mendoza Non Plus Ultra Special Mention to the micro-story that best enhances the image of sherry brandy; its author will receive as a trophy a bottle of the very aged and exclusive Cardenal Mendoza Non Plus Ultra sherry brandy and a case of sherry wines from the Romate special reserves.
All awards will be accompanied by their corresponding certificates.

The submission deadline is September 30, 2022, and the results will be announced during Cardenal Mendoza Golden Week, between October 25 and 31, via the website cardenalmendoza.com.
The previous edition received 2,689 entries from thirty-five countries. The first prize went to “Vigilia,” a micro-story with a Unamuno-esque slant, written by the Asturian author Alberto Menéndez García. The second prize was awarded to the Malaga-based author Miguel Campos Martín for “Campiña.” The third went to Miguel Ángel Escudero Eble, from Madrid, for “Los del quinto.” The Cardenal Mendoza Non Plus Ultra Award was won by Raquel Traverso Rodríguez for “Resurrección.”
