A jury chaired by writer Mauricio Gil Cano and composed of Josefa Parra Ramos, poet and director of the Caballero Bonald Foundation; Ana Sofía Pérez-Bustamante Mourier, professor of Spanish Literature at the UCA, writer, and vice-director of the Royal Hispanic American Academy; and Evaristo Babé Romero, president of the Regulatory Council of Brandy de Jerez, decided to award the following prizes at the 7th “Cardenal Mendoza” International Microfiction Contest:

First prize: “Materiales de una relación, by Gabriel Pérez Martínez, from Málaga.

  • Second prize: “Suplentes, originally by Nicolás Rodríguez Sanabria, from El Paso, Texas (United States).

  • Third prize: “Una copita, created by Ignacio Elguero, from Madrid.

  • Cardenal Mendoza Non Plus Ultra quote: “The world’s delirium, originally by Joan Graell Piqué, from Orgañá (Lérida).

    A total of 1,315 entries were submitted to the competition from thirty-three countries: Spain, Germany, Andorra, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, the United States, France, Greece, Guatemala, the Netherlands, Honduras, Italy, Israel, Liechtenstein, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
