Every year, during its Festival, Habanos S.A. sets itself the challenge of creating pairings with outstanding spirits from Cuba and around the world. And this 19th edition had a special guest, the ideal counterpart to the world’s finest premium cigars: Brandy de Jerez.
There were exactly four brandies that complemented the most anticipated pairing of this event, along with two short-aged Habanos
with short aging periods and distinct flavor profiles—Trinidad Vigía and Partagás Serie D No. 4—which could be tasted alongside Carlos I Imperial, from Bodegas Osborne; Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real, from Bodega Sánchez Romate Hnos; Lepanto Solera Gran Reserva, from González Byass; and Fundador Exclusivo, from Bodegas Fundador.
The pairing event was presided over by Juan Girón, Director of International Marketing at Tabacalera; Ángel García Muñoz, writer, journalist, and Habanos expert; Marcelino Piquero, Commercial Director of Bodegas Sánchez Romate; Oliverio Montalvo, Acting Commercial Vice President of Habanos, S.A.; Ernesto González, Executive at Habanos, S.A.; and José María López Inchaurbe, Director of Strategic Marketing at Habanos, S.A.
During the tasting, led by moderator Fernando Fernández, national coordinator of the Cuban Habanosommelier program, participants confirmed the harmony between the spirits selected for the occasion— finalists from a preliminary tasting held in Madrid featuring various Brandis de Jerez, from which only four were chosen—the finest examples of the perfect harmonious pairing with Habanos.
